The  Funtaj  SAGE team is a social enterprise lead by teenagers working to create an ecologically sustainable society .

The  team is set to launch the "Light up Naija  Project"

          Date :Thursday 25th February,2016

Time :10:00am

Venue : Funtaj International School,Gudu ,Abuja

The Funtaj SAGE Team is partnering with NASENI Solar limited ,a local solar energy manufacturing company to provide and install solar panels and sustainable light  also with this they believe that employment in the renewable energy sector will be stimulated.

This project is aimed at providing  1,000  children in 13 rural schools,1 IDp camp and a target to reach 5 million children by 2018 with free, clean, safe, reliable, sustainable solar energy light in their homes at night so that they can continue to read, complete homework and  generally improve in their education.

The solar panels will be used during the day time to charge a rechargeable bulb which will be given to each child. This bulb will be taken home at night to provide safe clean light to continue learning. The children will constantly recharge the bulbs to continue learning during the evening darkness.  Each school will have 3 x 80W solar panels to recharge 75 bulbs every day. The bulbs retain a charge 30 hours so by switching on and off like any light bulb they will work all weekend while school is closed.

This project is set to address the Sustainable Development Goals

1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2. No hunger
3. Good health and well being
4. Quality Education
5. Gender equality
7. Affordable clean energy
8. A goal partnership for development
10. Reduce inequalities
12. Responsible consumption
13.Climate action
